2 T. active dry yeast
1 t. sugar
½ C. warm water
Combine above ingredients in a small bowl. Set aside.
1 C. butter or shortening
½ C. sugar
2 t. salt
1 C. boiling water
In a large mixing bowl, cream shortening, sugar, & salt. Add 1 C. boiling water. Cool to lukewarm (important!).
4 eggs
7 ½ C. flour
1 C. cold water
Beat eggs into the shortening mixture. Add yeast mixture. Beat in flour & cold water. Do not knead.
Refrigerate 2 hours or more. Roll dough out on floured board. Sprinkle dough with sugar, cinnamon, & dot with butter. Roll up as for jelly roll, pressing down edge firmly. Cut into 1-inch slices. Place on a greased baking pan or cookie sheet & let rise until double in bulk. Bake at 400° 12 to 15 min.
